If you are reading this you most likely fall into one of two groups. 1. You love Disney World and want to consume all the information you can about it. You love taking vacations to Disney World and are always on the lookout for the latest tips and information. Or, 2. you are contemplating a trip to Disney World. Maybe you even have it planned and you want to see if it is really going to be worth your time and money to put into it. Either way you most likely want to make sure that you get the most that you can out of your trip to Disney World.
Our first family trip to Disney World was back in November 2010 and we didn’t think it could get any better than that. But, over the past 7 years Disney has been doing even more and adding in new things to make the experience even better. Here are 18 reasons you should go to Disney World in 2018
1. 2018 Epcot® International Flower & Garden Festival
If you want to escape from the cold weather (all you northerners) and experience what spring should feel like, head to Epcot for the International Flower & Garden Festival. During the event, world showcase is filled with outdoor kitchens, Garden Rocks concerts on the weekends, guided tours, musical play areas for children, and incredible displays of topiaries and gardens. Your admission to Epcot gets you into most of the activities, but there are some special tours and classes that require an additional fee. 2018 dates are set for February 28th through May 28th.
2. Epcot® International Festival of the Arts
If you love the arts you are going to want to head to Epcot for the International Festival of the Arts. The event started last year and was so popular that they decided to bring it back again. There is everything from live music. tasty treats, and professional workshops that you can participate in. The event runs from January 12th to February 19th. You can get more information from the Disney World website. Your admission to Epcot gets you into most of the activities, but there are some special tours and classes that require an additional fee.
3. 2018 Epcot® International Food & Wine Festival
This is one of our favorite events. You can wander around world showcase and sample a vast array of food and drinks at stands around the park. There are also Eat to the Beat concerts, culinary demonstrations, and seminars.
Pandora is the new land located in Animal Kingdom that is based on the movie Avatar. The land opened last year and has been drawing big crowds into Animal Kingdom. People are amazed at the details that is included in this land. While many people rush straight to Pandora to get in line when Animal Kingdom opens the land is actually supposed to be even more amazing at night.
5. Disney Springs has even more dining options coming
The Edison has been a long-awaited addition to Disney Springs and it is finally open! The initial reviews are good and people are excited about it. And, while Disney Springs is already loaded with dining options to fit every taste there are even more amazing options coming in 2018. We always planned just part of one day to spend at Disney Springs during our vacations, but it’s going to be hard not to go back more with all the amazing dining choices.
6. Toy Story Land
If you have been following Disney news at all in the past few years you know that Toy Story Land is opening at Hollywood Studios this summer! The Toy Story movies have done amazingly well over the last few decades which makes this exciting for both children and their parents. Our family can’t wait to go on the new Slinky Dog ride. We’ll keep you updated on the official opening date when it is announced.
7. Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party
The official dates have not been released yet for this year’s Mickey Not So Scary Halloween Party, but it’s an event you don’t want to miss. It typically runs on select nights through September and October. You have not been trick-or-treating until you have done it at Magic Kingdom. You do need to purchase a special ticket for this event, but it’s well worth it, especially if your kids are used to trick-or-treating with their winter coats, hats, and gloves on. There are special characters in the parks, a themed fireworks show, parade, and loads of candy!
8. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
I didn’t think that it could feel like Christmas in a warm location until I experienced Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. This is an event I want to go to every chance that i can. Magic Kingdom is beautifully decorated for Christmas, snow falls through main street during an incredible Christmas themed parade. The fireworks are the best you will see and there is even hot chocolate and cookies. This is also a special ticketed event, but worth every penny. Since fewer people are in the parks the ride lines are dramatically shorter than you will experience during the day.
9. Animal Kingdom’s 20th Anniversary
On Earth Day, April 22nd, this year Animal Kingdom will be celebrating their 20th anniversary. The official details of how they are celebrating haven’t been released yet, but we will keep you posted when there is more information.
10. Disney Spring Resort Perks
If you have been wanting to go to Disney World, but either can’t afford to stay on property, or would prefer to stay at a Disney Springs resort you can know take advantage of a new deal. Disney is now allowing guests that are staying at Disney Springs resorts to make their FastPass reservations 60 days in advance, the same as Disney resort guests. We like to stay in a Disney Springs resort the night that we arrive in Orlando and have had great stays there. They provide transportation to the park and some are within walking distance of Disney Springs.
11. Say goodbye to Atlanta Braves Spring Training
The Atlanta Braves have been hosting their Spring Training at the ESPN Wide World of Sports for two decades, but it’s all coming to end. The Braves have found a new home for Spring Training and will be starting there in 2019. If you are a fan of the Braves this is your chance to experience seeing your team at Disney for the last time.
12. Mickey Mouse is turning 90
This November Mickey Mouse will be turning 90! If that isn’t reason enough to visit Disney World then I don’t know what is?
13. Caribbean Beach Resort refurbishments complete
Caribbean Beach Resort has been undergoing a major renovation and it is set to be completed by the end of this summer. Old Port Royale has been reimagined, there will be a new Centertown Market complete with casual eating, and a refurbished Shutters restaurant. You will even be able to eat waterfront. You will also be introduced to the Banana Cabana outdoor bar. I have to say that we have stayed at Caribbean Beach in the past and while we did like it, we would always choose Port Orleans Riverside over it. However, these new changes and images that have been released have me wondering if we should be switching our plans for our November trip.
14. It’s going to get busy with more coming additions
Yes, the addition of Pandora added to the crowds at Disney last year, but there are more changes coming. If you don’t care to see Toy Story Land this year I would recommend visiting Disney World before the summer. There will be whole new crowds coming for Toy Story Land and when 2019 rolls around we will see the opening of Star Wars Land, which you can only imagine how many people are going to want to see that.
15. New Animal Kingdom show
We were sad to hear that Flights of Wonder was closing at Animal Kingdom, but there is a new show opening that we are excited to see. The show will feature UP characters Russell and Dug. They will watch as they discover bird species from around the world. There will be close encounters with birds during the show. This will be coming this Spring.
16. Prices will only continue to go up
Yes, a Disney World vacation is expensive. There is no way around it, but there are some ways to spend less while you go. And, every year we see a slight increase in the price of tickets, at the hotels, and on dining options. With the new additions of Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land there is no reason to expect this to be any different. My advice is to find the best deal that you can this year and go have a blast! We have never regretted the money we spent on a Disney vacation because of the memories we have created as a family.
17. Create magical memories together
Every year is a good year to create magical memories at Walt Disney World. Each year Disney has been adding new and exciting options for you and your family to enjoy. I love entering Disney property and letting the stress of real life fade away. Our family immerses ourselves in the fantasy and magic of Disney. We have fun together and spend every minute together. And, we build incredible memories that we love to look back on throughout the next year.
18. Your kids are just going to be another year older
I know some people like to wait until their kids are “old enough” to remember Disney, but that’s a huge mistake. It doesn’t matter how old your children are you can have the best trip to Walt Disney World. When we took our first trip only 2 of our 3 daughters were born. Our youngest at the time was 15 months old. She doesn’t remember the trip and there are only a few things that our oldest, who was 4, can remember from it.
But, Dustin and I have such good memories from that vacation. And, we all love to look back at the pictures and the girls like to hear the stories. Morgan could barely talk and wouldn’t even say “mama”, but she knew how to say “Mickey”. The way their little faces lit up when we saw the characters or went on the rides is something that I will never forget, even if they don’t remember it.
As you can see Disney World has some fun and exciting things that are happening this year. 2018 at Disney World is bound to provide you with great memories to look back on in the years to come. What are you most excited for at Disney this year? Tell us in the comments.
