Today was a huge day for Walt Disney World, as hopeful reopening dates were announced for Disney World’s parks, and three Disney owned locations reopened in Disney Springs! And right here is all of the news you’ll need to know about Disney World reopening, along with what’s been happening in Disney Springs.
Disney World Reopening Dates
Earlier this morning, (May 27th) Disney officials released new information on their plans to reopen Walt Disney World. Their plans still need to be approved by Mayor Jerry Demings, and then sent to Governor Ron Desantis for the final approval. But if all goes well, then Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom will be reopening on July 11th, shortly followed by EPCOT and Hollywood Studios reopening on July 15th.
Along with their plans to reopen to the parks, Disney is planning on reopening Disney Vacation Club Resort hotels before the parks on June 22nd, along with Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. None of the other Disney World Resort hotels have confirmed a reopening date at this time.
New Social Distancing Rules
Just like Shanghai Disneyland, Walt Disney World will need to add some new social distancing rules to their every guests’ trip so that everyone can stay safe. These rules are pretty much the same ones that Shanghai Disneyland had to apply when they reopened.
And just like in Shanghai Disneyland and in Disney Springs, every person entering a Disney Park or resort will need to get their temperature checked before they enter. If their temperature reads 100.4 degrees or higher, they will most likely be asked to leave. In addition to temperature checks, all guests ages 3 and older will be required to wear a mask, but Disney is thinking about making “relaxation zones” where guests can take their masks off for a while.
To add to the social distancing protocols, there will also be reduced capacity in the parks, shops, restaurants, attractions, and all transportation in Disney World. Adding to that, extra hand washing stations will be added all around Walt Disney World, so guests will always remember to keep safe.
Changes In The Parks
Yesterday, I made my predictions as to what would change about Disney World when it reopens. As it turns out, I was right about one thing, and that is that character meet and greets in Disney World will be suspended for the near future. Along with character meet and greets, parades and fireworks shows will also be suspended until a later time.
Disney Springs News
Like I said earlier, not only did Disney release information on Walt Disney World’s reopening, but the first three Disney owned locations reopened in Disney Springs! This morning, World of Disney, The Marketplace Co-Op, and D-Luxe Burger all reopened, drawing a large crowd and a bit of chaos.
Guests were lined up outside of World of Disney around 40 minutes before the store opened. The large crowds the Disney owned locations drew got so intense, that cast members began to use a virtual queue to get into World of Disney and The Marketplace Co-Op. Once you get into line, a cast member holding an iPad will ask you to give them your name and number, and then they will send you a return time.
Despite Disney’s efforts to keep guests social distancing from each other, from some of the pictures I’ve seen, it looks like some of those rules were broken by guests this morning.
Like everyone is, I’m very excited to see where the plans to reopen Disney World go, and I hope that the reopening dates that Disney has released will work out. I’m also excited that Disney owned locations in Disney Springs are starting to reopen, but I hope guests will remember to respect the social distancing rules. But anyways, to anyone reading, stay safe, and have a magical day!
