Disney News- Hong Kong Disneyland Reopening, Reservations Available Soon, And More!

Recently, a lot of news has been released in the Disney world. And I mean a LOT! With most of the Disney Parks reopening again after being shut down for months because of Covid-19, a lot of Disney news has been being released lately. But in the last couple of days, Disney has been releasing TONS of information. But don’t worry… we have it all right here on A Dollop of Disney!

Hong Kong Disneyland Reopening

A few days ago on June 18th, Hong Kong Disneyland became the second Disney Park (after Shanghai Disneyland) to reopen after the pandemic shut everything down.

Hong Kong Disneyland reopened to the public after there was a large drop in coronavirus cases in the Chinese Territory. Social distancing protocols are being put into place in restaurants, attractions, queues, and many more places all over the park. Social distancing markers were on the ground all around the park, to keep groups of guests away from each other. The weather was very hot on reopening day, which would seem worrying because some guests might not want to keep their masks on in very warm weather. But from the pictures I’ve seen, it looks like most guests did a great job following the rules and keeping their masks on.

Food And Wine Festival Coming To EPCOT!

This next piece of Disney news is very exciting- Food and Wine Festival is coming back to EPCOT when it reopens on July 15th! Not only that, but it’s also kind of a mix of EPCOT’s Flower and Garden Festival, as some topiaries will still be up! This festival will stick around for several months, and I cannot wait to hear about what it’s like!

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Is CANCELED!

After the great news about Food and Wine was out, we got some not so great news… Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party in the Magic Kingdom is canceled for this year! While it surely is understandable that they’d cancel it because things like the parades, firework shows, and character meet and greets have been suspended, it still is disappointing news.

Disney World Annual Passholder Previews

A few days before Disney World Parks reopen, the Disney World Annual Passholders will be able to get previews of Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. These dates are July 9th and 10th, and only passholders that receive email invitations can attend. If you are an annual passholder, you should start watching your inbox, since the emails will be sent out soon.

Magic Bands Are No Longer Free In Disney World

Believe it or not, starting January 1st, 2021, Disney will be retiring complimentary Magic Band distribution for all Disney World Resort guests. You can still get Magic Bands, but you will have to buy them to be able to use them. That may seem confusing, but it’s because starting January 1st, 2021 everything you can do on your Magic Band, you will be able to do from your My Disney Experience app. For example, you will be able to use the app’s “Digital Key System” to unlock your room using your smartphone.
