Will Disney World Actually Reopen In July?

After hearing the news that Disneyland’s July reopening has been delayed to a later date, questions began to rise on whether or not Disney World will still reopen soon. So, I decided to do a little research, and I after looking at the latest news, I’m still confused on the question on if Disney World will reopen on July 11th as planned.

Coronavirus Cases Rising

In recent news, we have learned that coronavirus cases in Florida are rising quickly. In the past couple of days, the cases have reached record high levels of new daily cases. And while the parts of Disney World that are already open (Disney Springs and a few resorts) are continuing to operate, I cannot see it being a reasonable decision to reopen the theme parks in Disney World at a time like this with cases spiking. There isn’t much time before Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom plan to reopen on July 11th, so I bet in the next week, if Disney World delays their reopening, we will know.

Crowd Levels

While Disney World will have reduced capacity in the parks when they reopen, it’s still a little worrying to think about all of those people together in one theme park. On one hand, we have seen Shanghai Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland reopen, (Disneyland Paris will reopen July 5th) and it looks like it was handled well. But on the other, once Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom reopen, all of Walt Disney World Resort will become a lot more crowded than we’ve seen it. At the moment, there are not that many people at the resorts, but once the parks reopen, that will change almost instantly.

However…

While all of the most obvious signs point to the fact that Disney World probably shouldn’t reopen in July, the plans have yet to change. A few days ago, annual passholders were able to make their reservations for reopening day, and all of the available spots were taken within half hour. Which means that all plans to reopen Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom on July 11th, followed by EPCOT and Hollywood Studios on July 15th, are still taking place.

So…

At the moment, most signs point to Disney World going on with it’s reopening plans, and the Disney World Parks reopening in July. Personally, I think it would be a better idea to do what Disneyland is doing and delay the reopening until cases slow down a bit. But as long as the social distancing rules can be followed, it looks like Disney World will reopen come July. Stay tuned for more news about Disney World’s reopening, and stay safe!
