Recently, my family went to the newly modified character breakfast at Topolino’s Terrace in the Riviera Resort! It was definitely unlike any character dining we had ever experienced before, so today I am going to give you my full review!
For many people, when you go to a Disney character meal, the food isn’t really what you’re going for, but the experience. And honestly, that’s exactly why we were looking for, also. For the characters! Although, the food definitely was delicious!
Shortly after we arrived at our table, our waitress, (Who by the by was amazing) brought us a bucket of complimentary muffins and pastries along with honey butter and house made jam. Everything was delicious, and the paint splashed bucket was a nice touch.
After we polished off our pastries, the waitress came back to our table and we ordered our drinks and entrees. My sister Morgan, my mom, and I got the Sour Cream Waffles with breakfast sausage. (Mine was plant-based) The waffles were topped with roasted apples, raspberries, and honey butter. I am not a fan of apples or raspberries, so I pushed those to the side of my plate. In addition, there was a LOT of honey butter, and while it was tasty, I couldn’t eat it all. But overall, the Sour Cream Waffles were delicious, and so was the plant-based sausage. I would definitely get those again if I were to return to Topolino’s Terrace.
My other sister Macy ordered off the kid’s menu, and she got the Mickey Waffle Dippers with a side of bacon. The two waffles also came with a cup of fruit, and three sauces to dip the waffles in. The sauces were Chocolate, Raspberry, and an Orange marmalade syrup. Macy liked her food, but she could not finish it all. But how cute is this plate?
My dad ordered the Two Eggs Any Style off the menu. The scrambled eggs he got came with roasted potatoes, and a choice of sausage or bacon to go along with it. (He got bacon) My dad said his meal was good, but paying forty-two dollars for eggs and bacon would be ridiculous if we hadn’t came for the character experience. And I think he is definitely correct in that aspect. Without the characters, the food would not be worth forty dollars.
The atmosphere at Topolino’s Terrace was definitely unique. The whole restaurant felt very fancy, because of course, you are at the Riviera Resort. Even riding the elevator up to Topolino’s felt fancy!
When you first enter the restaurant, there is a check in area where you confirm your reservation and wait for your waitress or waiter. Even this area was beautiful, and felt very fancy and put together.
While you are waiting for your table to be ready, you can also go outside and stand on the terrace. There is a beautiful view of the Riviera resort, and you can also see Caribbean Beach Resort, The Skyliner, and a few of the parks if you look closely.
Now this is the part of Topolino’s Terrace’s breakfast that most people come for. When the restaurant first opened, the characters could actually come to your table, take pictures with you, and interact closely with your party. But now, because of coronavirus and social distancing, that is quite different. The four characters that are at Topolino’s, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy. They each take turns parading around the restaurant separately, and then they all come out together in a “celebration” with music and dancing. But of course, they cannot come close to the guests.
And if you time everything right, you might get to take socially distanced pictures with the characters. We tried it a few times, and while it was difficult, we might’ve got a few good ones.
Some attempts at taking pictures with the characters came out less than stellar… but that might just be because of my horrible camera skills. (And camera quality)
Even though we couldn’t come close to the characters, we are still glad we got to see them! Here are some other pictures we took.
Social Distancing Protocols
In order for Disney world to reopen, they had to follow a lot of social distancing rules. That is the same for Topolino’s Terrace. In order to dine at the restaurant, you need to wear your mask the whole time you’re there, except for when you’re eating and drinking. There are also hand sanitizing stations around the restaurant, so you can clean your hands if you feel the need to.
In addition, there are a few tables in between each party, so guests aren’t too close to each other. If I’m being honest, I felt very safe while I was eating at Topolino’s Terrace, and I think it is a safe experience, even for people who might not feel comfortable going into the parks yet. It was also nice to see Cast Members cleaning around the counter area while we were there.
After considering everything, I think the new character breakfast dining experience at Topolino’s Terrace deserves an eight and a half out of ten. While it was expensive, the food tasted good, and it was fun seeing the characters. I would definitely dine there again, even with the new social distancing rules. Anyways, stay safe, and stay tuned for more Disney content coming to A Dollop Of Disney!
