One of the best parts about staying at a Disney World resort is that you are transported to all of the parks, waterparks, and Disney Springs for free! There are four main free transportation systems you can use on Walt Disney World property, and those include the Monorail, the Disney Buses, the Disney Boats, and the Skyliner. And today, to make it easier for you to decide which to use, I am going to be ranking them all!
4: The Disney Skyliner
If you read my previous article about the Disney Skyliner, you’d know that I’m not the biggest fan of it. That, is the reason it’s at the very bottom of my ranking. Although, that doesn’t mean I hate it! In fact, despite being a little bit scared of it, riding the Skyliner can be a pretty fun experience! You just have to be ready for the bumpy take off, and quick landing. Other than that, the rest of the ride is very smooth!
However, riding the Skyliner can be very inconvenient if you get unlucky. Why? Well, not too long after the Disney World Skyliner opened for the very first time, there was a major malfunction. The whole Skyliner system stopped, and a few of the gondolas even crashed into each other! Guests were stuck in their gondolas for hours while Disney was trying to figure out what was going on. Therefore, if you have a place in Disney World you need to get to quickly, taking the Skyliner from any of the Skyliner accessible resorts could be a bit of a risk.
Don’t be scared though! Since the crash back in September 2019, nothing like this has happened to the Skyliner. In fact, the first time my family rode the Skyliner was after the accident, and we were totally fine. So while you shouldn’t be scared of taking a ride in one of the gondolas, you should keep in mind that it could cost you some time if you get stuck for a few minutes.
3: The Disney Boats
While I love the Disney Boats with all of my heart, they’re definitely not my favorite way to travel for free in Walt Disney World. Although it’s a nice way to get to places like Magic Kingdom, Disney Springs, and some of the resorts if you have some time, if you need to be somewhere quickly, this probably isn’t the way to get there. Normally, boat rides in Disney World take quite a long time, and feel a bit inconsistent sometimes.
Even if the Disney boats aren’t the best way you can transport yourself from place to place in Disney World, they are definitely useful! If you are in Disney Springs and you want a nice, relaxing way to get away from the hustle and bustle, then taking a nice boat ride to a resort like French Quarter is a great way to do just that! Make sure you look at the colored flags near the boats though, to ensure you’re getting to the resort you want to be at.
2: The Disney Monorail
There’s just something so magical about riding on the Disney World Monorail, and that’s why I’m ranking it as the second best way to travel for free in all of Disney World! While it can’t transport you everywhere in Disney World, it’s still a fast (and fun) way to get to the accessible stops!
If I’m being honest, I don’t really have anything bad to say about the Monorail. While it’s not my absolute favorite way to travel around Disney World, it still has much more pros than it does cons! And also, the places in the Magic Kingdom monorail loop are probably my favorite places in all of Disney World, so that’s a definite plus.
1: The Disney Buses
The Disney Buses are by far my favorite way to travel in Disney World, so them being number one on the ranking was a no brainer. There’s just something so nostalgic about stepping onto a Disney bus, and hearing the pre-recorded message say that we’re on the way to Magic Kingdom. That may sound dumb to a lot of people, but to me and a lot of other Disney fans, the Disney buses hold so many memories. But if we’re looking at the real evidence, then the best part about the Disney buses is that they’re the only mode of transportation on Disney World property that can get you anywhere, including the parks, waterparks, resorts, and Disney Springs.
The only bad thing I have to say about the buses in Disney World is that waiting for one to arrive can take quite awhile sometimes. In fact, one time I think my family waited around an hour to get a bus ride to our resort after a morning at Magic Kingdom. And I know that sounds like it should be a major turnoff, I still think the Disney World buses are the best, smoothest, and most magical way to travel in Disney World.
While the Disney buses are definitely my favorite free mode of transportation on Disney World property, and on my ranking, each one of them is great in it’s own way. And if you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort, the free transportation is an amazing benefit. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed my ranking of all of the free Disney World transportation, and make sure to stay safe, and stay tuned for more Disney content coming to A Dollop Of Disney!
